RE: A Sad Tale

I new the original owner Eddie. He had a mostly travel trailer business in Commack,NY. When he sold the business they moved from Commack to this location, a huge lot right up against the Long Island Expressway. Filled the lot with dozens of class A,s. I thought to myself how is this guy going to stay in business, the class A business on Long Island is not that great. I am suprised they lasted this long. I tried to do business with them when I was looking, but did not like the way they dealt with me. I think they bit off more than they can chew and turned to crime to try and stay afloat. Ken

RE: Generator shuts down while driving

Hi Kenbert. You didn't mention - is the AC running when parked? Or is it under load when parked vs driving? Also, what year is the unit? How many hours on the Genny? I have a similar problem that I think I have figured out and planned to post all about it here when I'm done. Mine will run for 13 minutes under load (roof AC) and then shutoff. Under light load basically charging phones or running playstation, it will run forever. Does your vaporizer or shutoff valve ice up just before it dies? The shutoff valve is on the bottom right where the line from the tank connects to the genny. The vaporizer is the pressure regulator looking thing in the top left, it tucks into the shrouds around the engine. I may be the most expert person on this topic right now! I've spent alot of time diagnosing mine and I am dropping my propane tank tomorrow! My genny will run with both ac's on while parked. It is a 1995 with 300hrs. Just recently replaced the voltage regulator. Ken

Campgrounds turning away business

Camped in PA last week had reservation in Knoebels till friday, booked late and could not get weekend. So I called a few CG's in the Delaware Water Gap area for an overnight Friday, was going to stop at the Marshall's Creek flea market on Saturday. Two of the campgrounds I called had a two night minimum, I even asked one of them that you must be full, which he replied with an "oh no we are not full", so I said " then why are you turning away business." He repeated the two night minimum and hung up. The other CG might give me an overnigt if I drove up, but would not budge on the $45/night price plus kids. The third CG was Pocono Vacation Park, the women said sure come on in $31/night pull through with full hook up and 50amp. Great place, clean and a lot of activites did not have to pay for. And the people were terrific, I will be back. I understand that CG's have certain policies, but to turn away business when you have openings is just plain nuts. Especially when in this economy CG's are not filling up like they used to. Anyway it was a blessing in disguise, I now have a new weekend retreat to go to. Please disregard any mispellings, Spell check is not working. Ken

Generator shuts down while driving

I have a 7k watt Kholer LP generator. When I am parked I can run the gen for as long as I need with no problems. When I run it while driving with ac on, it will shut down after about 10 to 15 minutes. When I shut it down with the switch it shuts down like its starving for fuel, but when driving it shuts down like a switch, no rumble just off instantly. Looking for anyone with a similar problem. Thanks. Ken

RE: Super light bunkhouse trailers

Try Trail-Lite by Rvision. Just sold my 2002 30ft w/3 bunks in back. Had no problems and its dry weight is 4,300 lbs. Towed it with a 6cyl Astro van. Ken

RE: Lake George RV park

Go to Lake George public park in middle of town, They have an unbelievable fireworks show every Thursday during the summer. Also across from Great Escape is the best ice cream shop around. The nightly shows in the park are terrific, but get there early. Have fun. Ken

RE: Journey will not start

When the mechanic hooked up the batteries make sure the extra ground wires that go to the post were reconnected. I had the same problem and forgot to hook up extra ground wire to battery. Ken

RE: Are there less RV's in the parks?

I have noticed private campgrounds are definitely not filling up as in the past, I know this because I sometimes wait to long to make a reservation, especially on holiday weekends and I usually loose out and settle for whatever I can get if anything. Yesterday I decided to start looking at reservations for the last week in August which ends on Labor Day. I was very surprised on how many CG's had sites still available. I had plenty to choose from and wound up in a CG I have been wanting to try. Ken

RE: Easy Way to Improve Mileage

Kenbert, several government studies have proven that it is the speed differential that matters in highway safety. In other words, it is the difference in speed between vehicles that is the main factor causing crashes, not the actual speed of one vehicle or the other. So not moving with the traffic flow is what causes accidents, whether you are going faster or slower than the general speed of vehicles around you. Also, the vehicle causing traffic flow disruption is not always the one involved in the accident. Someone changes lanes to get around a slow vehicle, causing traffic in the new lane to have to adjust for the lane changer, which causes others to slow down or change lanes, and the turbulence increases until someone makes a wrong move, and an innocent driver ends up getting hit while the cause of the whole problem rolls blithely on. This is especially true when the slow vehicle insists on sitting in the center lanes, causing traffic disruption on both sides. So a lack of rearended MHs does not mean slow RV's, or other vehicles, don't create accidents. Plus, every vehicle affected by the flow disruption has to brake and/or accelerate, causing a drop in fuel efficiency for 10 or 20 vehicles for every 1 vehicle that isn't following the traffic flow. That said, there is no need for some RVers to be flying along in the left lane at 75 or 80. We belong in the right lane, moving at whatever moderate speed traffic will bear. If someone else wants to tear along in the right lane, it is their fault if they get held up, and they should get over in the left lane where they belong if they are in a hurry. If you read my responses you would have seen that I was talking about the RIGHT lane and that lane only. Not the middle or left lanes which is where I agree with you. The right lane is for slower traffic and as you said the one tearing along in the right lane is their fault not the rv doing 55mph. Please understand I am just responding to the ones that use phrases like an accident waiting to happen, or if you go that slow you will get run over, or stay off the highways in my area if you go that slow, etc, etc. So if you like going fast stay out of the right lane. RE: Easy Way to Improve Mileage

I run 60 to 65 on the Interstates and run 55 to 60 on non-freeways. My life is worth more to me than getting rear ended by an eighteen-wheeler running up on me at 65 - 75 mph, while I'm doing a mileage test at 55 mph in the right lane. These slow moving RV people are an accident waiting to happen. Where did you ever see, hear or read about an accident because some rv was going 55mph in the right lane. Accidents happen from high speed. To believe you are at risk in the right lane doing 55mph is ridiculous. KenThe New York State Thruway or the Northway would be two for starters. Many rear end accidents on both those roads. Oh, I-80 thru Pennsylvania would be another and we must not forget I-95 anywhere north or south. I didn't ask about highways that had rear end collisions, which happens all the time. I said specifically the cause being an rv traveling 55mph in the right lane as the cause. I don't think so! Ken

RE: how can weathermen be so far wrong???

There is a scene in the movie "The Weatherman", with Nicholas Cage that sums up weather forecasting. Cage is the weatherman and walks into the back room where all the computers are showing the radar images. He proceeds to ask the expert analyzing the data, what's the forecast, and the expert says, " how should I know, it's wind you can't predict wind. Ken

I have this same one, just used it the other night when we had a power failure. Works great, but is very very LOUD. Would not bring to a campground unless could put it far away. Ken

RE: Oil Change Myth?

ron.dittmer, Been doing this for over 10 years and never had an engine problem, probably had 8 or 9 cars and trucks in that time frame. I will stick to what I know works. Also spoke to a Mobil rep once and he said on the QT you could go 50,000 miles. Also saves me alot of money and I am conserving oil. Ken I guess if I had 9 cars in 10 years, I wouldn't even bother with changing the oil. That includes the car for my DW, and my son in 10 years, happy now. Ken

RE: What do you think...dare I ask???

Lots of people also keep referring to "MY property", "MY site", "MY post". You do not own this property, the campground does. Just because you rent a site that does not mean the power post belongs to you. The campground has ultimate say on who can plug into what post. You rented a 50amp site, you have 50amps, the campground has provided their end of the bargain. They can let anyone they want plug into the 20amp circuit. And for that matter, unless you had your site surveyed with property lines drawn, they can let anyone they want park on "YOUR" site. I have never seen a campground hand me a map with "property lines" clearly defining what space "belonged" to me. Technically, with the campground managers permission I can walk up and plant a tent right next to your RV. Now I realize this would be bad business practice, but they could do it. Ryles What we mean when we say ours, mine, is directed to the other campers not the CG itself. If the cg owner comes to me and says my neighbor can use the extra outlet, and as long as I am not using it then that is fine. The op said the cord just appeared with out anyone coming to him about it. And I always use the extra outlet for my electric skillet. Ken

RE: Airplane camper?

I did see once on television about a guy that took the body of a 707 jet and made a motor home out of it. Was very nice. Ken Are you sure that wasn't a boat? I remember seeing an airplane turned into a boat on TV last year. Barney My mistake, now I remember it was a boat. Ken
